Once you've chosen your donor, the next step is to following recommendation of deciding between fresh or frozen egg donation.

• With frozen eggs, you purchase a set (called a lot) of already-retrieved eggs and can begin creating embryos right away.
• With a fresh cycle / traveling egg donor - your donor completes medical screening and takes medications to prepare for egg retrieval, after which her eggs are collected and used to create embryos.

Both options are safe, effective, and widely used - the best choice depends on your timeline, goals, and preferences.

You match with a donor who then completes her medical screening and medication cycle before undergoing egg retrieval. After retrieval, eggs can be fertilized right away or frozen for later use.

Frozen Egg Donation

Advantages of Using Frozen Embryos for Embryo Transfer

Using frozen embryos (FET - Frozen Embryo Transfer) has become increasingly common and is often the preferred method in modern IVF treatments.

Here are the primary benefits of choosing frozen embryos over fresh ones:

1. Physical Recovery (The "Freeze-all" Concept)

In a fresh transfer, the woman's body is often still affected by the strong hormonal stimulation required for egg retrieval.

Hormonal Balance: By freezing the embryos and waiting 1-2 months, hormone levels (such as estrogen and progesterone) have time to return to baseline.

Better Receptivity: The uterine lining (endometrium) is often more "natural" and receptive in a cycle not influenced by stimulation drugs, which can increase the chances of successful implantation.

2. Reduced Risk of OHSS

The most significant medical advantage is that it virtually eliminates the risk of Ovarian Hyperstimulation Syndrome (OHSS).

If a woman becomes pregnant immediately after egg retrieval, pregnancy hormones can worsen an existing case of hyperstimulation, which can be dangerous. Freezing the embryos allows the ovaries to rest.

The Medical Process

What does the donation cycle involve?

Screening: Extensive medical, psychological, and genetic testing.

Suppression: Often starting with birth control to sync your cycle with the recipient.

Stimulation: Self-injecting hormone medications (FSH) for about 10-14 days to help multiple eggs mature.

Retrieval: A 20-30 minute outpatient procedure performed under light sedation. With preparation and rest afterwards approx 6 hours.

It takes around 3-4 days in general to recover after a eggretrieval and get back to normal.

Are there side effects?

Most side effects are mild and similar to PMS:

Bloating, cramping, and mood swings.

Tenderness or bruising at the injection site.

Rare Risk: Ovarian Hyperstimulation Syndrome (OHSS), where the ovaries overreact to the hormones. Clinics monitor you eggdonor closely to prevent this.

Will it affect eggdonors future fertility?

No. Every month, body naturally recruits a group of eggs, but only one typically matures while the rest are reabsorbed. The medication simply "rescues" those other eggs that would have been lost anyway. It does not deplete your lifetime supply.

Frequency and Legalities

How many times can eggdonors donate?

The American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM) recommends a maximum of 6 lifetime donations. This limit exists to protect donor health and limit the number of genetic half-siblings in a geographic area.

Is it anonymous?

It depends on the arrangement:

Anonymous: Neither you nor the parents know each other's identities.

Do I have legal rights or responsibilities?

How do I handle the payment for the egg donor?

We want to make this process as clear and stress-free as possible for you. The payment structure depends on the type of donor you choose:

Local Egg Donors: If you choose a local donor, the cost is already thoughtfully included in your surrogacy agreement. These payments are handled seamlessly through the installment plan outlined in your contract.

Premium/VIP Donors: If you select a Premium or VIP donor, the compensation for the donor, her medication, and her additional expenses are paid directly to the specialized egg donor agency.
