The 5 Steps of Your Surrogacy Journey

The path to parenthood may seem complex at first, but we are here to guide you through five clear milestones. While every journey is unique and timing may vary, here is what you can expect:

1.

Consultation and Sign-On

Estimated Time: 1–3 Months

  • Your journey begins with a personal consultation to discuss your goals. Once you join the Baby Wiltor family, we introduce you to your dedicated Matching Specialist.
  • Medical Coordination: If you have an IVF clinic, we will sync with them immediately. If not, we will help you select one from our network of world-renowned clinics.
  • Embryo Creation: If you have embryos ready, you are all set! If not, we will support you through the creation process.
  • Egg Donation: If your journey requires an egg donor, we will provide expert guidance and access to premier egg donor banks to find your perfect match.

2.

Matching with Your Surrogate

Time Varies

  • This is one of the most exciting stages - finding the woman who will help grow your family.
  • Screening process: All our surrogates undergo a rigorous 3-step screening process.
  • Connection: Through digital meetings and video calls, we ensure a deep, compatible connection between you and your surrogate.
  • Support Team: Once matched, you'll meet your Journey Coordination Team, including program managers, legal counsel, and financial specialists who will manage every detail moving forward.

3.

Medical and Legal

Estimated Time: 3–4 Months

  • This phase focuses on the technical and protective details of your journey.
  • Screening: Your surrogate completes her final medical clearance.
  • Legal Contracts: We facilitate the surrogate contract to ensure everyone's rights and intentions are protected.
  • The Transfer: The milestone we all wait for - the embryo transfer and subsequent "beta" pregnancy tests.

4.

Pregnancy

Duration: 9 Months

  • During this time, the focus shifts to the health of the surrogate and the growth of your baby.
  • Medical Care: At 10 weeks, your surrogate transitions to her OBGYN. Key milestones include the 20-week anatomy scan where you can discover the baby's gender.
  • Birth Planning: In the second half of the pregnancy, we help you and your surrogate create a Birth Plan so everyone feels prepared for delivery day.
  • Parental Rights: We work with legal counsel to establish your parental rights, ensuring your names are on the birth certificate from the very start.

5.

Parenthood

  • The moment you have been waiting for! Whether it's decorating the nursery or packing those first tiny outfits, our team remains by your side until your baby is safely in your arms and you are ready to head home.

Birth Certificate & Parental Rights

In the USA, the path to parenthood is paved with clear legal protections, ensuring that you - the Intended Parents - are rightfully recognized on your child's birth certificate. The process is handled through either a 'pre-birth order' or a 'post-birth order.' Whether parental rights are confirmed before the arrival or finalized shortly after, our expert legal coordination ensures a seamless transition, allowing you to focus entirely on the joy of welcoming your baby.

About California

California is one of the 50 states of the United States and the third largest state. It's a very diverse state, with natural landscapes such as Yosemite and Sequoia National Park, and a coast with fantastic beaches. It has a Mediterranean and temperate climate, with mild temperatures - the sun shines almost all year round. Los Angeles is the most populous city, along with San Diego. The official language is English, and Spanish is considered a second language. Its currency is the American dollar (USD). The time zone is GMT/UTC-8 (GMT/UTC-7 during daylight saving time).

Health

The health system is very good, but it can be expensive without insurance. We emphasize the importance of securing adequate insurance to cover any potential medical expenses for the baby or subsequent care.

Education

California's education system is considered one of the best in the world. Educational training ranges from 2 to 18 years, with compulsory studies and public education access for everyone. Notably, half of the student population is of foreign origin.

Gastronomy

California's cuisine is marked by fusion, integrating different styles with local and fresh ingredients from Californian farms, adapting to the season. Its true star is wine - California produces 90% of American wine and is the world's fourth largest producer.

Celebrations

Notable celebrations include January 1st with the parade of roses; the Oscars ceremony in February; the nationwide 4th of July holiday (US Independence Day); “Old Spanish Days” in August; and on September 3rd, the largest fair in America lasting 23 days.

Surrogacy in California

Surrogacy is widely accepted and allowed for any family model in California. It is very important to take out insurance covering any medical expenses that may be incurred at the birth of the baby or later, as well as for incubators, interventions, etc. We work to obtain the judgment which establishes the parentage of the intended parents and the cancellation of any rights of the surrogate mother.

Surrogate Mother Requirements

Our surrogate mothers in California must meet strict requirements:

  • Healthy women between the ages of 20 and 40 with regular menstrual cycles.
  • At least one full-term pregnancy.
  • No smokers or drug addicts.
  • No legal background or mental illness.
  • They must pass a full medical examination, including all established tests.

Egg Donors

Our egg donors undergo thorough medical screening, including karyotyping and testing for STDs, genetic conditions, immunohematology, and hematology. We also evaluate them based on family medical history, education, talents, and interests. Donors are typically between 18 and 28 years old and may have given birth to a healthy child previously. For your selection, we provide detailed information including eye and hair color, height, weight, age, blood type, and RH factor. Additional details such as work experience, interests, talents, and educational background may also be provided. Photographs are available to assist in your choice. We also offer a category of open egg donors who are willing to allow contact from the child once they reach 18 years of age. To begin the process of selecting an egg donor, you will have access to an egg donor bank; alternatively, you can complete a donor characteristics form to receive suitable donor profiles for your consideration.

Traveling to California

There are direct flights from most European capitals. To travel to the United States, you must complete the online authorization form “ESTA” (available at esta.cbp.dhs.gov). It costs approximately $21 USD, is valid for two years, but you cannot stay in the United States for more than 90 consecutive days.

  • Valid biometric passport (e-passport with biometric chip)
  • ESTA authorization - apply at least 72 hours before departure
  • Return ticket and confirmed accommodation address
